Mitosis:
The cell nucleus divides AKA the genetic material
Happens for Somatic Cells AKA non-sex cells, just normal cells
Prophase:
The chromosomes are created
The nucleus membrane is DESTROYED
Metaphase:
The chromosomes are lining up in the middle of the cell
The centrosomes are on OPPOSIDE sides of the cell
The Centrosomes push away and pull a chromatid to each of them,
AKA they pull the chromosomes apart
Anaphase:
The chromatids are being pulled apart into FOUR separate chromosomes
Telophase:
The chromosomes start to unwind and nuclear membranes are being created
Cytokinesis:
Where the cytoplasm/everything else is divided into two daughter cells.
And now you have two separate cells that start going through interphase.
Centrosomes:
Organize the microtubules
Made of from arrangement of two barrel-shaped clusters of microtubules, called “centrioles,” and a complex of proteins that help additional microtubules to form.
It ALSO DUPLICATES in the S phase
Chromosomes:
Diploid: 46
Haploid: 23
Homologous chromosomes:
Chromosomes that code for the same genes
Chromatids:
When are chromosome has been duplicated, a chromatid is produced, which is still only ONE chromosome, but is just bigger.
Centromere:
The point where two chromatids touch.
